Until 1953, there was no Methodist church in Vista. Several families who shared a common dream for a Methodist church petitioned the Methodist Conference to put Vista in Methodist territory. The Conference responded to the petition and appointed the Rev. Lionel Kenworthy as the first pastor. The first building at the Lado de Loma site, a fellowship hall and Sunday School Rooms, were occupied on October 2, 1955. A sanctuary was built later and the first worship service in the sanctuary was held on November 2, 1969.
The Lado de Loma property was sold to Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse in 2002. In February 2002, the congregation began meeting at Breeze Hill Elementary School on Sunday morning during two-and-a-half years of new church construction.
On June 29, 2004, the first service was held at the property at 490 S. Melrose, Vista, California. “Built on a Rock” has special significance as we remember the commitment of the folks who began the journey and all those who have been a part of it up to the present. Our building is built on the rocks and our spiritual life is built on a Rock.

Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.
