Fellowship
They came from Encinitas, San Marcos, Oceanside and Vista. United Methodists
with a passion for mission met here in our church to discuss a new vision
for ministry together. Our District Superintendent hosted and helped us to
catch glimpses of this vision, where we see ourselves not as individual
churches, but as campuses of the Church in the same mission area, working
together to respond to the needs of people in that area.
This was the work and vision of our Mission Area Summit held here
November 2.
We, as United Methodists, see ourselves as part of a larger
church, and indeed as a part of the world-wide body of Christ.
We celebrate our connections to other United Methodist churches and
through our fair-share giving support the ministries of the denomination.
The concept, then, of “Mission Areas” is not new, it is the logical
extension of our understanding of being connected.
Often individual churches will see a need in an area and
will set up the structure needed to respond.
Often this means that neighboring churches will duplicate these
structures. How much more
efficient would it be if we were to join forces! We have done this already,
and interdenominational, with programs such as interfaith and Operation
H.O.P.E. So in many cases our working with other United Methodist Churches
will be nothing new, but we look to expand that activity. Further, the
vision cast would have us continue to develop new programs and mission
activities together.
We won’t be doing this all at once, but will be growing our
understanding of being campuses together in one mission area. Our gathering
identified the next steps in this process. For youth missions, the Vista
Campus will provide administrative oversight for a cooperative team to go to
the Sierra Service Project. The Encinitas campus, already deeply involved in
hurricane relief projects in Mississippi, will provide the leadership and
organization for a mission trip. The San Marcos church has the facilities
which allow them to host the Interfaith Shelter Network , but teams from the
other campuses will participate. We will all work together on Operation
H.O.P.E.
In order to keep and grow the vision, each of the campuses
in our North County Mission Area will identify one person to be a point of
contact for our collaboration.
Along with the pastors, this person will encourage our participation, will
share information, and will remind us of cooperative activities as we plan
and set dates on our calendar.
We are indeed one in Christ Jesus!
Grace and Peace,
George

Life’s Path
Find the right path and invite others to follow
What is important to you in this life and the next? If you listed what is really important, would God and His
church be numbered 1, 10 or 20?
If you asked, you would discover that those who list God and His church as most important are:
1. committed to regular
presence in worship, study and fellowship;2. pray
daily;3. share their
gifts of time and talents;4. provide
service in the name of the Lord; and5. pledge to
financially support their church weekly, monthly or annually. They have
joined a church and they are active. They have joined the education program and teach children oradults...or they have joined the music program...or they have joined a committee or help in some other capacity.
In this process they have made new friends and begin to understand all the wonderful things their church does
as well as its needs and problems. They help solve the needs and problems of their church home just like they would
their own.
Finally they begin to realize how important their church family and church is to them. They want other families
to have these great benefits and they invite them to visit their church.
