Sierra Service Project….more

If you have any questions contact Jim McGlocklin @ (760) 726-0442 (church) or e-mail Jim McGlocklin.

We leave Sunday, July 2 returning Saturday, July 8, 2017.  We are sending  youth from UMC of Vista and youth and one (1) adult from San Luis Rey UMC.

This summer we will serve in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. We plan to serve with the San Diego Canyonlands on environmental preservation, as well as offer a day trip to Tijuana, Mexico during Adventure Wednesday. In addition, we hope to work with several refugee organizations in the region.

Thanks for your continued support in this missionary project the youth participate in each summer.

Donations to off set the expenses of the missionary trip can be made at the church.  Write on the donation SSP 2017 or if you want the donation to go to a youth, write SSP 2017 and youth’s name.

Volunteers will be housed at long-time SSP church First United Methodist Church of San Diego. Volunteers will eat, sleep, do program and hang-out at the church when we are not working or visiting sites in the city. There will be off-site showers at a location to be determined.

Youth Summer Service Projects
Sierra Service Project offers week-long service projects during the summer for middle school and high school youth groups. Each summer, 125 churches and 2,000 youth and adult leaders join together at one of our sites located in urban and rural communities across the western states.  At SSP, youth are safe to grow in their faith, learn new skills, and make new friends while serving those in need. Last summer, teenagers completed 113 projects on 85 homes and community centers. SSP serves the elderly, poor and marginalized. Our service is offered without strings attached, with respect and humility

“Let us rise up and build.”
